In the early 80’s a visit to Japan and ancient village ceramic kiln sites also led me to expand my vision with brush techniques.

More study brought me to the beauty and simplicity of

Sumi-e found in the Zen philosophy of "Less Is More"

I sought formal instruction where ever I could find it. It was a natural transition of the brushes from glazes in my pottery to ink .

More inspiration came in 1999 with another extended visit to Japan.

I began studies at UCLA extension and subsequently group travel studies in 2006, 2oo8, and 2012 to the interior of China, Tibet and Taiwan with master painter Dr. Ning Yeh.

My studies were enhanced by joining the International Chinese Painting and Water Color Society  "ICCPS ".

Please google ICCPS for more information on this dynamic international society founded by Master Ransui Yakata in Japan.

I have exhibited in Beijing and also in An Shan prefecture with this wonderful group of artists.

Please enjoy these paintings as much as I have enjoyed painting them!

                                    Sincerely, Nona
